What is my Purpose?

August 8, 2011

How do you find out what your purpose is as an indiviual and within your Christian Marriage?  There are three ways to help you find out and fulfill your purpose in life.

1.  Pray–  Ask God to reveal to you why he created you. Only God knows why you are here because he created you.  He has a plan for you, When you pray ask him to reveal his plan for your life.  “Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33

2. Think– What excites you?  What are some things that come easy to you?  Things that you could do for hours and still wish you had more time to work on it. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 If you are still unsure of what you are good at, ask those close to you. Chances are the people who know and love you can tell you what your strengths are.

3.  Act- Get busy about doing his will. Start off by serving others, do something nice for someone today without expecting anything in return. This is good for two reasons, you cannot do something for someone else without being blessed as well. It makes you feel good inside to bring a smile to someone else’s face. And it brings you closer to God, his word says ” What you do for the least of my brothers, you do unto me.”  Matthew 25:40 To be closer to God should be every Christians goal.

Once you start fulfilling your purpose you can expect the enemy to turn up the heat. . For the word says, “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” Ephesians 6:12 Every trial or blessing that comes your way has a purpose, and the purpose is to prepare you for what he has destined you to do.

But when you know who you are, there is no peace like the peace God gives you. It is actually hard to explain but I will do my best. When God is working in you nothing that opposes you can bring you down.  It’s amazing how God will slowly unfold the plan he has for you. This is where peace takes over, because when you know that God is preparing you, you no longer feel attacked. You have a new perspective, you begin to see your situation through your spiritual eyes.

Challenge:  Go before God in prayer and ask him why you were created?  While you are waiting for God to reveal to you your purpose, make a list of things you are good at.   God tells us that believing in Him is not enough we must do something to help our faith.  “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” James 2″17 Finally, start doing something nice for someone else.  It will take your mind off of yourself while you are waiting for the Lord to speak to you.
